The People Have Spoken . . .

I think we can all agree on one thing when it comes to politics: "We will never all agree."

This was definitely evident in DWM's election poll (for full results, see page 26). When asked for specific comments about why individuals are voting for Trump or Clinton, we got an earful. Here are six of the more interesting responses for each of the major-party candidates.

Team Clinton

"She has sensible, if not exciting, plans to address the challenges we face; including infrastructure, environment and the economy. Trump is unqualified by temperament and competence to hold this office."

  1. "I tend to lean Democratic, though have been known to vote for a Republican now and again. This time around, though, Trump truly frightens me. He is childish, reckless and a rabid narcissist. He just does not have the temperament to run our (or any other) country."

  2. "She knows that to get things done requires both clear communication, strong negotiating skills and the ability to compromise. The Republican crucifixion of her as a liar and criminal is unjustified (i.e., without proof). Trump would be a complete disaster in any governmental leadership role, let alone president."

  3. "I think she has more experience, she's less emotional and doesn't act like a nasty bully. I realize she is not the perfect candidate, but I would vote for a dog to keep Donald Trump out of office."

  4. "Frankly, the thought of a Donald Trump presidency scares me. He is too unstable and has no experience nor shown any desire to learn about it. His tax policies will bankrupt the U.S. and lead to further erosion of infrastructure."

  5. "She is not radical or a racist. Not a crybaby, gets the job done and will appoint great advisors."

Team Trump

  1. "Temperament/trustworthiness/ political correctness argument is a red herring. It's why our system has built-in checks and balances. We are electing a CEO–not a king–who is most likely to let our system work."

  2. "Crony capitalism has hurt this industry as it has hurt every industry with government picking winners and losers at taxpayer expense. Trump owes no one anything and will cut through the government bureaucracy to free up businesses with fewer regulations."

  3. "Tired of politics as usual, and regulations are killing business."

  4. "He would be the first president since Reagan that has put the people of the USA first. I truly feel that we need to be thought of first by our elected officials. His tax plan would be fair to the privately owned companies . . . "

  5. "Our country is in need of some drastic changes . . . perhaps running it as a business would help make us more financially stable."

  6. "I am looking for someone that is interested in bringing jobs and manufacturing back to our country. We have been on a downward spiral ever since Clinton passed NAFTA and allowed our manufacturing to go to the Chinese, who manipulate their currency and make it impossible for the USA to compete. We also have to stop the illegal immigration as that is lowering the wages in this country for the middle class. Trump is the only one talking about doing something about both areas."
